The battle for Clatsop County on September 01 - 03, 2018
This is a NwCC Event in Oregon
FT Worden- Living History ! on Saturday, September 01 through Monday, September 03
HEADQUARTERS, FOURTH U.S. INFANTRY August 5, 1863.
Unfortunately, I must inform you of the cancellation of the Living History/Skirmish event that was to have been held on Labor Day Weekend by the 4th U.S. Infantry at Fort Worden State Park, in Port Townsend.
The 4th U.S. Infantry was notified by the Port Development Authority of Port Townsend
that our application for use has been denied.
In part, their statement reads:
affiliation with the State Parks and land management does not allow overnighting (of any sort)
on the parade grounds. I understand this has happened in the years prior, however it is not
defined in our mutual lease agreement and is not permitted. Beginning in 2018, the special
activity permit became standardized to cost a minimum of $300/day (per event type) with
holiday weekends having a 2 day rental minimum for all associated venues. In addition and
of equal importance, Fort Worden neighbors have steadily issued grievances following the
previous years’ military campout events. In consideration of the above, combined with the
other contracted events and groups on campus, Fort Worden finds that it is no longer a
sustainable venue for this event.”
I, therefore, must apologize, on behalf of the 4th U.S. Infantry, if had you been considering
coming to Fort Worden on Labor Day Weekend to participate in this Living History/Skirmish
event with us.
Your obedient Servant Brad Jones
Captain, Company C, Fourth U.S. Infantry, Commanding Regiment.
