Historical Note: Starting in the summer of 1920, Smedley Butler as brigadier general & commander of the Marine Base at Quantico, Virginia marched his men to a prominent Civil War battlefield and re-acted the battle. This action produced favorable publicity for the Corps at a time when military units had fallen out of favor.
