Visitor Information
This page is intended to provide information for the first time visitor so people can feel they know what to expect when they arrive. More general information, like don't walk into a closed tent, but do walk in to camps and talk to the reeanctors, needs to be added.
Living history and battle reenactments sponsored by the Washington Civil War Association encourage the public to attend. Each event is different and specific information can be found on the Event Info page. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of the event.
A Soldier
Dress for the weather. Bring an extra jacket, especially to events in coastal or wooded areas. In wet weather, wear waterproof shoes.
You may want to bring an umbrella. Not only is an umbrella good for keeping the rain off, it can double as a parasol on sunny days.
On sunny days, be sure to bring sunscreen. You may also want bottled water or a picnic lunch, though many events have food vendors.
Many events are held in state parks or on private property featuring a wide variety of terrain. Some events may be difficult to navigate for those with mobility impediments, please contact the event coordinator for details at a particular event.
Battles feature black powder guns and cannons. These weapons are loaded with "blank" or powder only rounds, producing noise and smoke, but firing no bullets. The noise from the battles may be too loud for some with sensitive hearing, such as children and animals. Consider bringing ear plugs for your children and leaving noise sensitive animals at home.
Please do not leave animals in your car. It can get hot quickly, even on cloudy days, which may cause injury to your pet. Loud noises can sometimes spook animals, even from the parking lot. We do not want your animal to become lost or injured.
Souveniers are available at events in the sutleries and at the information desk. While many sutleries take credit cards, cash is universally accepted and faster to use. Admission is cash only.
